Cortisone is a metabolic product of cortisol that possesses glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid properties and is used to suppress inflammation, dissolve scar tissue, stabilize the body's defenses, and speed the healing process.

Cortisone is an inactive form of cortisol that is converted by the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 in the adrenal cortex, allowing for the specific binding of aldosterone to the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR). Cortisone is used to treat adrenal insufficiency and inflammation.

Cortisone-d8 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of cortisone by GC- or LC-MS.
