FAM (5,6)-isothiocyanate or (5,6)-FITC is an isothiocyanate derivative of fluorescein that reacts with nucleophilic substituents (e.g. amino, hydroxyl, thiol) of biomolecules. It is often used to label antibodies and other probes for use in various fluorescence-based techniques such as microscopy, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence assays like immunochemistry, Western blotting, and ELISA.
